Melbur Class Scientists

2nd February 2024

This week our Melbur Scientists have been investigating friction. Our first challenge explored the impact of oil on a jelly cube. The challenge was to pick up a jelly cube with pencils and to compare it to picking up another jelly cube covered in oil. It's fair to say both were tricky, but one was far trickier than the other!

We are trying to improve our science vocabulary, so our target was to use words like lubricant and friction to describe our findings.

Our next step was to see how friction could be helpful in the world around us. We used Newton meters to test the grip of the soles of different shoes.

Here’s a photo of the shoes in order of the highest friction (most grip) to least friction (least grip). We really enjoyed getting the Science equipment out. We are real Scientists!
