Eden is our Reception Class and the focus throughout Reception year for all children is on developing the skills needed to ensure a happy and successful time at Nanpean School.

The Eden team consists of Mrs Hayes (classteacher), Mrs Cookson and Miss Dash.

There will be lots of opportunities for children to read during the week and each child will read to an adult in class at least once a week. Eden children will be sent home with a book for them to look at at home with an adult.

We will also be developing our numeracy skills through a range of practical hands on tasks, concentrating on number recognition, quantities, estimation, simple addition and shape, space and measures. We will continue using the Read, Write, Inc programme for the introduction of phonics to our reception children. The children will now be working in small groups for the first part of the day with children that are of a similar reading ability and may work with some children from Hendra and Prosper class.
