Democracy Day

22nd April 2016
Our School Council group attended St Stephen Parish Council's Democracy Event today with Ms Marsden and Ms Grindrod. The children had the opportunity of meeting with our Parish Councillors and learning about their various roles within the Council. The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and learnt about the history of the Parish Council, which held its first meeting in 1895, and the importance of the democratic process,  including how to hold a democratic council meeting and the sort of topics to put on an agenda. As chair of our School Council, Joseph was shown how to use a gavel to bring order to the group and Councillor Sibley offered to donate a gavel to our School Council! Our Parish Council is one of 213 in Cornwall and works to provide bus shelters, cemeteries, allotments, war memorials, clocks and public toilets in the area. On Wednesday 27th April at 7:30pm, the Parish Council are holding their annual parish assembly at Nanpean School Community Hall and everyone in our community is welcome to attend.
